A trip to Thailand wouldn’t be complete without a trip to one of its many ancient temples. In Chiang Mai, you can head to the golden Doi Suthep Temple for a peek into the local’s religious culture. This golden temple is located on the mountain of the same name and remains as a sacred site for the locals until today. Since Doi Suthep Temple is located on a mountain, it offers a great view of the Chiang Mai city.
Elephant is pretty much Thailand’s national animal, they even took part in the water festival! To interact with these huge mammals and take a look at their natural habitat, head to Maesa Elephant Camp. Situated in a beautiful tropical valley and housing over seventy eight elephants, it is home to one of the biggest assembly of elephants in north Thailand.
Hill tribes are special to Thailand, Laos and Burma as they inhabit the forest at the remote border areas between these countries. In Thailand, they are mainly found at northern area, especially in Chiang Rai. While learning about their culture and heritage, you will also be able to see girls wearing brass rings since young, in a practice to elongate their neck as an effort to maintain individual and tribal identity.
